I'm very sorry about your loss, but you did the right thing. Pictures always help me. I've heard of some other people making scrapbooks out of happy times they spent with their pets. I wish I had thought of that idea sooner and taken more pictures. I lost my bird just a few weeks ago and I hardly have any pictures of him.
