Does American Anime count as Anime?

I think one who answered Voltron is not an anime is a bit confused. Voltron was originally concieved and animated by Toei animation from Japan. It was called Go Lion or if it was the vehicle team Dairaga XV. Anime' is the french term for animation but in the 80's and 90's when anime was still very limited in the western regions it was called Japanimation or Japanime' w/c was later streamlined to just anime' as we know it today. Avatar has a very anime -style feel to it but its a western concept not Japanese. I don't know about the Boondocks but Gotham Knight and the Animatrix although were animated by Japanese animation studios is not a Japanese concept so although its very much influenced by Japanese anime most anime otakus wouldn't consider them as anime.
